PEARSE and CONNOLLY

"By the by, curiosity question. What do you think of Patrick Pearse? In my book I make a short remark about him. From what I understand he was a nationalist, although some of his followers in the Easter Riot were communists, Connolly? Is that who I'm thinking of?"

Yes, Padraic Pearse was an Irish Nationalist who organized the Irish Volunteers, and he was associated with James Connolly, who was a Communist. At the beginning of the Easter Rebellion in Dublin, Connolly warned his Irish Citizens' Army to save their ammunition because after the British were (theoretically) driven out of Ireland they would need the ammo to turn on the green Nationalists like Pearse, etc. and establish a Communist state.
